Rritja e Koranit
We chose Rritja e Koranit for its position on Rruga e Drilonit, by the spring-fed...
Berat earned its UNESCO listing and its nickname, the city of a thousand windows, from the rows of white Ottoman houses climbing its hillside, and Beratino Hotel takes that view seriously enough to build room categories around it. Deluxe doubles with a balcony look out over the city and the mountains beyond, while other rooms step back to an inner courtyard for a quieter stay. Seven rooms, a restaurant and a bar give the place more depth than most small hotels its size, and across booking platforms it holds hundreds of reviews at a near-perfect score.
We chose this hotel because it solves the view problem honestly. Many hotels in Berat's old town claim a castle or mountain outlook that turns out to be a sliver between buildings; here, the deluxe balcony rooms are specifically built and priced around a genuine city and mountain view, with a courtyard-facing category clearly offered as the quieter, view-free alternative rather than disguised as equivalent. A restaurant and a bar serving wine and champagne, plus executive lounge access, give the hotel a level of service closer to a small city hotel than a guesthouse, backed by a review count in the hundreds that few seven-room properties anywhere in Albania can claim.
Rruga Zoi Tola sits inside Berat proper, within reach of Mangalem, the Ottoman quarter of white houses stacked beneath the hilltop castle, and the Osumi river that splits the town below it. Berat's old town rewards walking: narrow lanes climb between stone and timber houses, and the castle itself, still inhabited within its walls, is reachable on foot for anyone willing to make the climb. It is one of the two great stone towns of southern Albania, alongside Gjirokastra, and a natural stop on any route built around the country's Ottoman heritage.

The deluxe doubles with balcony, at around 30 square metres with a king bed, are the rooms to request for the city and mountain view; a second deluxe category offers the same size and outlook without the balcony. Quieter rooms on the ground floor, some reached without stairs, face an inner courtyard instead, trading the panorama for a calmer night's sleep. Every room comes with air conditioning, soundproofing, a flat-screen television and a private bathroom, with most adding a minibar and a safe.
Breakfast runs à la carte rather than a fixed buffet, with packed lunches and in-room service also available, and the bar's wine and champagne list gives the evening somewhere to go without leaving the building. Executive lounge access, board games in the shared lounge and a hair salon round out a set of services that few seven-room hotels in Albania bother to offer, closer in spirit to a boutique city hotel than a bed-and-breakfast.
Check-in starts at 2pm and check-out is at 11am. The hotel accepts children but not pets, and a paid airport shuttle can be arranged for the roughly two-hour drive from Tirana. Reception speaks English, and private check-in and check-out are available for travellers arriving outside normal hours.
